Gaviscon Suspension is an antacid.
Gaviscon Suspension gives you quick and lasting relief from the pain and discomfort of heartburn and indigestion. It contains sodium alginate, calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate, which help prevent stomach acid from going back up into the esophagus, reducing the amount of acid in the stomach or intestines when you have an ulcer.
Gaviscon protects the esophagus from acids, pepsin and bile.

Indications:
• Gaviscon used for mild symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.

How to use:
shakes well Gaviscon before use.
Adults and children over 12 years of age: Take 10-20ml of Gaviscon (2-4 tablespoons of 5ml) after meals and at bedtime.
Children 6 to 12 years of age: Take 5-10ml of Gaviscon (1 to 2 tablespoons of 5ml) after meals and at bedtime.

Points of Interests:
• If symptoms do not improve after seven days, the clinical situation should be reviewed.
• Antacids will decrease the absorption of many medicines. The administration of antacids should be separated by 2 hours from other orally administered medicines, whenever possible.

Side effects of Gaviscon suspension:
• Generally well tolerated.

Cautions:
• Each 10 ml dose has 106 mg sodium content and a 78 mg potassium. This should be taken into account when a highly restricted salt diet is recommended.
• Each 10 ml contains 200 mg of calcium carbonate. Care needs to be taken in treating patients with
hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis and recurrent calcium containing renal calculi.

Interactions of Gaviscon suspension:
• Erlotinib: antacids possibly reduce plasma concentration of erlotinib.
• Ciprofloxacin: antacids reduce absorption of ciprofloxacin.
